Membrane Pilot Factory Supervisor

Australia, Victoria, Port MelbourneA$80,000 - A$110,000 per yearManufacturing

Job description

About DiviGas

DiviGas is an international deep technology start-up developing membranes for the separation of the hydrogen. Our proprietary polymer membrane is capable of filtering hydrogen from a wide range of gas mixtures present within industrial gas and hydrocarbon processes. This technology has the potential to save billions in lost hydrogen from petrochemical plants, refineries, and other hydrogen technologies, and in turn, avoid the release of millions of tons of carbon dioxide. DiviGas’ vision is to become an integral provider of gas separation technologies in the rapidly expanding global cleantech sector. To date, the company has raised more than $5M USD and is currently building its pilot manufacturing and research laboratory in Melbourne, Australia.

As part of its new pilot manufacturing and research laboratory, DiviGas is looking for a Membrane Pilot Factory Supervisor to help set-up, operate, and then supervise its new pilot-scale membrane production line. This is a leadership position that will require a hands-on approach, a willingness to learn new processes, and an eye for technical detail. The successful candidate will quickly become the technical champion of our manufacturing process and assist with line start-up, shutdown maintenance of the production line, write standard operating documents, solve equipment problems, and train staff. Over the next 12 months, the role will grow to include responsibility for a team of 3-6 production line operators. If field trials are successful, we plan to expand our manufacturing capability offering future opportunities for growth within this role.

As a rapidly growing start-up, an ideal candidate for this role will be self-motivated, organised, and able to work in ambiguous and changeable situations. A strong sense of respect, integrity, and personal responsibility is essential. Prior experience in a start-up or fast-paced work environment is an advantage, however, we are equally excited to welcome an enthusiastic newcomer.

Key Responsibilities

Working as part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team, the Membrane Pilot Factory Supervisor will be responsible for the operation of the pilot membrane manufacturing plant and that health and safety regulations are strictly followed, as well as other duties as required.

To succeed in this role, you will be able to:

  • Oversee the start-up, shutdown, maintenance and ongoing operations of the pilot membrane spin-line and other production equipment.

  • Accurately and consistently complete maintenance records, batch cards and help prepare operating and quality assurance procedures.

  • Perform audits and monitor gauges, dials, switches, alarms and other indicators to ensure that all machines are working properly.

  • Identify equipment problems and implement continuous process improvements.

  • Understand and ensure compliance of operating procedures, company policies, and safe working practices to maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, while maintaining business confidentiality

  • Organise and prioritise tasks, support peer-to-peer learning, and ask questions when needing further clarification

  • Use Microsoft office/Google Suite software and learn new software as required.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or lesser qualification with relevant experience, in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.

  • At least 3 years of full-time experience operating production lines in a manufacturing setting

  • Experience supervising and/or training production of line staff

  • Experience with different modes of operation; batch, fed-batch, and continuous, ideally for the manufacture of chemicals and/or polymer products.

  • Knowledge of internationally recognised chemical safety standards, manufacturing excellence practices (5s, TPM, Standard work, etc.), and quality assurance regulations.

  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and implement continuous improvement practices.

  • Experience in setting up new production lines will be highly regarded.

  • Experience working at a major hazard facility (COMAH equivalent) will be considered favourably.

  • Experience preparing hazardous chemicals mixtures using recipes with great precision will be considered favourably.

  • The role is open for candidates with full working rights in Australia.

  • This role will include shift work as required by the operation of the pilot facility.

  • The candidate should be willing to obtain a forklift licence (at company cost) if required.
